Our
Story

The story of Essex Electrical began with a man on the tools and a vision. Russell Winsor, a seasoned site electrician with hands-on experience on some of London’s most iconic construction projects, took a leap in 1985 and founded Winsor Electrical.

What started as a modest venture—relying on industry contacts and small-scale work—quickly grew into a respected name in the electrical contracting sector.

Through consistent delivery and a commitment to quality, Winsor Electrical earned its stripes working with clients such as the Ministry of Defence, Cambridge Water, and Balfour Beatty. By 1994, the company's success culminated in its acquisition by Balfour Beatty. But the story didn’t end there.

Continuing under the name Essex Electrical Contractors and Engineers, and eventually simplified to Essex Electrical, the business pressed on with its original founder, Russell Winsor, joined by fellow director Mark Herbert.

Together, they upheld the very principles that sparked the company’s success: honesty, realism, customer-centric service, and an unwavering dedication to completing work on time and to a high standard.

For Essex Electrical, every project is a promise kept. If there’s a problem, they own it. If there’s a target, they hit it—even if it means collaborating across trades to ensure delivery. It’s a philosophy that hasn’t changed in four decades.

Quite simply, Essex Electrical hasn’t been trading this long by getting it wrong.
